Number Analogy Basic

NUMBER ANALOGY BASIC

We have to identify a rule or a logic between first two entities and the rule is applied on the third entity to find the fourth entity, or we can say that Analogy means correspondence. The various types of questions can be:

  • We have to choose a number related to a given number in the same manner as the two numbers of another given pair are related to each other.
  • We have to choose a similarly related pair as the given number pair on the basis of the relation between the numbers in each pair.
  • We have to choosing a number similar to a group of numbers on the basis of certain common properties that they possess.
  • We have to choose a number set similar to a given number set.
  • Example 1:      6 : 12 : : 25 : ?

    (a) 30            (b) 50       (c) 55         (d) 70

    Solution : (b) The relationship is 6 X 2= 12 so 25 X 2 = 50

    Example 2:       343 : 7 : :  1331 : ?

    (a) 12       (b) 24     (c) 11     (d) None of these

Solution : (c) The relationship is the cube of 7 is 343 and cube of 11 is 1331.

Example 3:  Select the pair in which the numbers are similarly related as in the given pair:  12 : 144

    (a) 22 : 464          (b) 20 : 400       (c) 15 : 135      (d) 10 : 140

    Solution:(b)  The relationship is dpi{120} fn_jvn large x:x^{2}. So, square of 20 is 400

Example 4 :  In each of the following questions, choose that set of numbers from the four alternative sets, that is similar to the given set.  Given set : ( 6, 15, 28)

     (a) (46, 56, 66)        (b) ( 50, 59, 71)     (c) (60, 67, 72)     (d) ( 60, 69, 82)

    Solution:  (d) In each set, 2nd number = (1st number + 9)        and 3rd number = (2nd number + 13)

Example 5:  In each of the following questions, choose that set of numbers from the four alternative sets, that is similar to the given set. Given set : (1, 8, 27)

     (a) (5, 12, 32)        (b) (32, 39,, 59)     (c) (60, 79, 86)     (d) (64, 125, 216)

Solution: (d) Each set contains cubes of three consecutive natural numbers in order.

Example 6:  In each of the following questions, choose that set of numbers from the four alternative sets, that is similar to the given set.  Given set : (18, 8, 2)

    (a) (3, 7, 1)             (b) (11, 12, 10)     (c) (17, 9, 3)      (d) (24, 22, 4)

Solution:  (d)  Each set consists of even numbers only whose H.C.F. (Highest Common Factor )is 2.

    Example 7:  In each of the following questions, choose that set of numbers from the four alternative sets, that is similar to the given set.  Given set : (223, 324, 425)                     (a) (225, 326, 437)   (b) (451, 552, 636)    (c) (554, 655, 756)      (d) (623, 723, 823)

    Solution:  (c) In each set, 2nd number = (1st number + 101)     and 3rd number   = (2nd number + 101)
